TREOW by Ryoko Akama is a sound installation that evokes music generatedby wind around the park. Piano wire attached between two trees captures the wind’s vibration which is transformed into sound. The wind’s music is heard through the tree which turns into a giant speaker.
BEE STRINGS by Dawn Scarfe explores the tiny, rapid movements of bee wings with layered recordings of bowed violin strings. Natural Philosopher Robert Hooke proposed tuning violins to the sound of bees in order to grasp the frequency of their wingbeats. Following his logic, if we know the rate at which musical strings vibrate,
we can infer that a bee sounding a G# beats it’s wings just over 200 times per second. Read more about Dawn’s work at: www.dawnscarfe.com
